Playing Nan: The upside
The fact that she has two sides – that upscale, sophisticated Diane Sawyer spokesperson-y side, and then her crass, bitchy, don't-fuck-with-me side. I love that I get to play the two extremes.
Playing Nan: The downside
I don't know that there are any bad aspects of playing her. She's just a fun ride. [Editor's note: In spite of repeated attempts to get Jessica to go negative, she stayed on message in true Nan fashion.]
Best fan reaction
It was very early on in the show, I was at home visiting my family in New York. And New Yorkers don't really react to actors; I've never gotten recognized in the city. People don't care, they walk around minding their own business. But this guy walked up to me and said "Oh my god! You're Nan! I love you, man!" And he gave me this huge hug, then kept on walking. And I thought that was so much fun, he dug Nan and that was really nice.
Worst fan reaction
"Oh, I don't like all that violence and blood." But that's from people who have never even seen the show, so what do they know?

The world is my oyster. I can run around, so many things are available that weren't before. I can mingle with everyone. That's certainly more fun.

As the spokesperson for the American Vampire League, I have to behave myself, and that is so boring. I have to tow the party line, though like many of my kind, I fall off the wagon every once in a while.
Favorite True Blood scene?
I had a couple of scenes with Alexander Skarsgard, where I got to say things like, "Listen, you whiny little bitch." It just makes me laugh that he's ten feet tall and could take me out with the flick of his finger, and I get to scream and yell and threaten him. I had a good time, giving him a piece of my mind.
Least favorite?
The only things that made for my least favorite scene were the conditions. It was late at night/early in the morning, around 4am, I'm in this incredibly tight, short skirt (I literally couldn't breathe), and the worst high heels, walking down a wet cobblestone alley. My feet are flying in all directions and I'm trying to remember my lines and not fall down. It was freezing cold and late at night – I'm such a wimp, I usually go to bed early because I have a seven year old that wakes me up at the crack of dawn.
